Welcome
A little about ourselves
Almost every day, we exercise our consumer power at the grocery store, at the mall, and in the dining halls, yet the age-old question persists: Are we using our power for good or for evil? Step back and ask, who grew this produce or sewed this garment? How much were they paid for their work? What is the nature of their work environment? How are their communities affected by the production and sale of these products? These are the types of questions that Fair Trade Northwestern strives to address. Fair trade is about ensuring fair and livable wages, safe and healthy working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. In essence, it is about preserving the integrity of the worker. At Fair Trade Northwestern, our goal is to advocate for Northwestern to take the necessary steps towards becoming a fair trade University.
